Pepsi Play for a Billion Take Two

Pepsi is at it again.

The beverage maker is dangling a $1 billion prize -- remember the monkey pulling the winning numbers from a velvet-lined bag last year -- in a summer sweepstakes that began earlier this month.

The Play for a Billion promotion, in partnership with ABC-TV, guarantees that one finalist will take home $1 million on national TV, with the chance to walk away with an additional $1 billion. The promotion began earlier this month.

Entry codes appear on specially marked bottles and cans of Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Caffeine Free Diet Pepsi and Sierra Mist. Participants enter the codes at www.BillionSweeps.com. Some products won't be in stores until mid June.

Players can also enter via a seven-week ABC promotion running June 21 through July 26. The network will spotlight seven comedy series -- According to Jim, 8 Simple Rules, Less than Perfect, My Wife & Kids, George Lopez, Hope & Faith and Life with Bonnie -- with a Play for a Billion buzzword featured during the shows. Viewers log onto www.abc.com to select the matching buzzword and are entered into the sweepstakes that week. Seven participants will be selected to become part of 200 consumers who will travel to Los Angeles to compete in the one-hour prime time special for a chance at the $1 billion.

The final event, airing September 12 at 8 pm on ABC, will be hosted by Damon Wayans, the star of ABC's hit comedy series, My Wife & Kids.

Last fall, in Pepsi's first Play for a Billion sweepstakes, a West Virginia teacher missed the $1 billion prize, but took home $1 million. Kendall the chimp stole the show as he drew the six winning numbers during a two-hour special that aired live on the WB Network to ensure there were no thoughts that the game was rigged. No word on whether the primate will make a return appearance this year.
